How Things Change (So, the Story's Told)
Sarah Nicholson/Adrian J Pratt feb 2021
Height of the summer in the middle of the day
Black truck tinted window pane
He wore red designer shades
Her coffin nails painted grey
Who would have thought they were runaways
From a small town where everyone knows your name
Where the people said they weren't good enough
For anything but the cheapest love
But oh, how things change
Standing tall in the pale moonlight
Ohh my gosh it was worth the drive and all the winding roads
Took the long road but we found ourselves
having the best time we've ever known
So, the story told
Apartment shopping Byars lane
Hope built in a brand new place
He played guitar she built the stage
and every night she screamed his name
Life was better than they ever knew
Far from that small town where nothing grew
And the people said they weren't good enough
They proved them wrong with perfect love
And oh, how things change
Standing tall in the pale moonlight
Ohh my gosh it was worth the drive and all the winding roads
Took the long road but we found ourselves
having the best time we've ever known
So, the story told
Bright lights as the band rolled in
He moved on to bigger things
Left her behind with an empty kiss
Saying "I could do better than this"
Hotel room on the 18th floor
Where the girls came knocking at his door
Maybe life was just teasing us
And one day we'd find it meaningless
Oh, how things change
Standing tall under bright stage lights
Oh my gosh was it worth the drive
And all the winding roads
I took the wrong road and I found myself
Missing the one thing I wanted most
So, the story told, So, the story told, So, the story told
