Upbeat rock with a funk accent. Bass, electric & acoustic guitars & a bit of piano drive the rhythm; electric lead pairs the vocal & punches out the solo. Jeff Kratzman collaborated on lyrics, handled vocals, drum programming & production (Thanks!)
The music came together rather quickly with a rhythm that seemed to evoke a sense of summertime and bring back a few memories -- hanging with childhood friends, playing in teenage garage bands, and growing apart as lives evolved.
This project called for lyrics, so I started writing and ended up tapping Jeff (a true lyricist) for his help on the last couple verses.
And you can move to this one!
Running through neighborhood yards with our best friends
Burning through days with no thought that they’d ever end
Pushing and pulling each other along; Having our backs in a fight
Giving a hand when one of us stumbled; Knowing we’d turn out all right
Tossing a ball while we all swapped our tall tales
Mimicking heroes who we thought could never fail
Camping in back yards while nobody slept; Gazing at stars in the sky
Telling ghost stories and legends we’d heard; Laughing when tensions got high
I still can remember the plans that we made
Back in those summer days, Kids pledging friendships forever unwavering come what may
Playing the clubs in our bands with some new friends
Chasing the dream burning candles at both the ends
Trying so hard not to be left behind; Holding on tight for the ride
Falling we let go, though forever friends; Waving our final goodbyes
I still can remember the plans that we made
Back in those summer days, Kids pledging friendships forever unwavering come what may
Wrapping up school, getting jobs, seeking true love
Tempering dreams, changing course toward what we’d become
Fighting the fading of passions in time; Feeling the years as they grind
Hoping for futures where we still belong; Living each day that goes by
